$50 Danger Mouse

I came across this on (the always fantastic) PSFK yesterday and thought it was really clever. Basically Danger Mouse has a new project out called “Dark Night of the Soul“.EMI decided to not release the album due to “legal issues”, so Danger Mouse went ahead and started selling them anyway. Limited to a run of 5000, each copy is hand-numbered, and comes with a poster, and a 100 + page book with photographs by David Lynch. This package will cost you $50, but to skirt the legal situation with the record label, it only comes with a blank CD. Buyers are encouraged to find the music “by whatever means” and fill the disc up themselves. NPR is streaming the whole thing here.

    What an amazing album.

Is this a genuine dispute or a clever publicity stunt?

It’s a genuine dispute apparently…and a great way to gain publicity, take a stand against music making bohemoths whilst making a load of money in the process! Pretty clever…
